Long Hair FUE
Neither the donor nor the recipient area is shaved. Long hair is harvested and long hair is implanted, so nothing about the procedure is visible to anyone afterwards.
The technique
Transplanting without shaving
In a long hair FUE the grafts keep their full length of hair, both when they are taken and when they are placed. This is only available at a small number of clinics; Dr Dorina Soltész has worked with the technique since 2021.
The practical consequence is that the result is visible from the first day and nothing has to be explained to anyone. There is no shaved patch at the back of the head and no short-cropped recipient area to grow out over the following months.
It is also the honest way to judge a hairline. Because the implanted hairs are already at length, the direction and angle of each one can be seen during the procedure rather than inferred, which makes the design of the hairline directly observable while it is being built.

Why few clinics offer it
Slower harvesting
A graft carrying full-length hair is more delicate to extract and to handle. Fewer grafts can be moved in a day than in a fully shaven procedure, which is why the technique is priced per graft.
More demanding placement
Long hairs have to be guided into the implanter and into the scalp without bending or damaging the follicle. It calls for a trained team as much as for the right instruments.

Suitability
Who it suits, and who it does not
Long hair FUE needs enough existing hair length to work with, in both the donor and the recipient area. It suits people who wear their hair long or medium and who do not want a visible recovery period.
Where a very large number of grafts is required, or where the hair is worn short anyway, a fully shaven FUE will usually give more coverage in a single day and at a lower cost per graft. Which technique is appropriate is decided at the consultation, not in advance.

Questions about Long Hair FUE
Will anyone be able to tell?
That is the point of the technique. Because nothing is shaved, there is no visible sign at the back of the head and no short recipient area. Some redness and small crusts are present in the first days and are covered by the surrounding hair.
How many grafts can be moved in one day?
Fewer than in a shaven procedure, because each graft takes longer to handle. The achievable number is estimated at the consultation from the donor area and the hair itself.
Does the transplanted long hair stay?
The hair shaft that comes across with the graft sheds in the first weeks, as it does in any transplant. What remains is the follicle, which grows new hair from around the third month. The visible benefit of long hair FUE is in the recovery period, not in the final result.
